Tipping means paying a creator you like directly—not to buy something, but to show your support.
The Taiwanese term “斗內” is a phonetic borrowing of the English word “donate.” It first became popular in gaming streams and is now used across video, livestreaming, and creator platforms.
How is tipping different from subscribing or buying?
Subscriptions and purchases pay for content. Tips pay to show you care.
- Subscribe: Pay once a month to see all of a creator's subscriber content.
- Unlock: Buy an individual video or photo set.
- Tip / Send gift: You get nothing in return; you simply want her to know she is your favorite.
Many fans do both: Subscribe for the content, then tip so the creator remembers them.
What are some common tipping platforms?
Streamers often use tipping pages built into streaming tools. Creator platforms put gifting right on a creator's profile.
In Taiwan, the first page of search results for “斗內平台” mostly features payment tools for streamers, such as Streamlabs, and personal link-in-bio services[1]. The difference is:
- Streaming tools work well for tips during a livestream.
- On creator platforms, gifts connect with content, Direct Messages, and the relationship between fans and creators.
How do you tip on ASEC?
Use the website's own virtual currency, Hearts, to send gifts to creators[2].
- Buy Hearts: 1 Heart=NT$1, with bonus Hearts in larger packs. Check the checkout page for each pack's current price.
- Open a creator's profile. Below the content, you will see a row of gifts, each with a price.
- Tap to send; you can undo it within 3 seconds. After that, the gift is confirmed.
If you are not signed in or do not have enough Hearts, a small card appears right there so you can sort it out without leaving the page.
How much does a creator receive from your Hearts?
Gifts received by creators are converted into earnings, with the platform share set in the creator's contract, the same as subscriptions and unlocks[2].
The Hearts fans buy are only for gifts and cannot be exchanged back into cash.
What changes when you tip more?
Generous fans get noticed.
ASEC's default design (actual thresholds follow platform announcements)[2]:
- Entrance effects: A special glowing entrance bar appears when you enter a creator's profile or livestream room.
- Pinned Direct Messages: Your messages are pinned at the top of the creator's inbox with a crown badge.
- Personal thank-you content: Creators can prepare special thank-you content for supporters who reach a qualifying level.
Can you use website Hearts in the App?
No. The website and ASEC App are separate services. Accounts, balances, and gifts do not carry over[2].
Do creators need to report tips for tax?
Yes.
Taiwan's Ministry of Finance rules issued in December 2025 classify viewer tips as income from professional practice (執行業務所得), which must be reported for individual income tax[3]. Creators can find details in How Creators in Taiwan File Taxes.
Why use Hearts instead of charging a card for each gift?
Because sending a gift should take one tap.
- Paying by card for every gift means entering card details and waiting for verification. The moment is gone by then.
- Buy Hearts first, then tap when you see content you like.
- Your card statement does not list every gift as a separate charge.
Can you get a refund if you send the wrong gift?
Undo it yourself within 3 seconds. After 3 seconds, the gift is confirmed and generally non-refundable. For special circumstances, submit an appeal through customer support for manual review by the platform.
Will the creator see your tip?
Yes. In Creator Studio, creators can see which gifts they received, how many of each, and who sent the most. She will remember your name.
How much counts as a big tip?
There is no fixed amount. The thought matters more than the sum.
- Small, regular gifts often make you more memorable than one large gift.
- Stay within your means. Do not stretch your budget for rankings or effects.
- If you want her to know who you are, pair your gift with a Direct Message.
