AI Girlfriend Guide: Chat Apps vs. AI Idols—and How to Choose (2026)

First, decide whether you want someone to chat with or someone you can actually see.

AI girlfriends broadly fall into two types:

• Chat apps: Built around conversation.
• AI idols: Have a consistent appearance, post photo sets and videos, and can also exchange Direct Messages.

You do not have to choose just one. Many people use both.

What types of AI girlfriends are there?

There are three categories based on what they offer.

1. Chat only: Text or voice conversations that remember what you have said. In Taiwan, the first page of search results for “AI 女友 app 推薦” mostly features these apps and Dcard discussions^[1].
2. Roleplay: Set the personality and storyline yourself, closer to interactive fiction.
3. AI idols: A consistent face, body, and persona, with new photo sets and videos released regularly. In Direct Messages, you are talking to the same “her.”

What four things should you check when choosing an AI girlfriend?

Consistent looks, memory, content boundaries, and clear pricing.

• Consistent looks: It is hard to feel attached when every generated image has a different face. Consistency is an advantage of AI idols.
• Memory: Will she forget what you talked about?
• Content boundaries: Rules differ by platform, so check before paying.
• Pricing: Is it monthly, per message, or per purchase? Does it renew automatically?

What are ASEC's AI idols?

ASEC's AI idols are virtual people created by the platform: they have a consistent appearance and persona, post photo sets and videos, and interact through Direct Messages^[2].

• Always labeled “AI-generated”: You will not be led to believe they are real people.
• Faces do not resemble any real person: Checks happen before publication to prevent the misuse of real people's likenesses.
• One section, two types of idols:
  • ASEC talent: Virtual people created by the platform itself.
  • AI doubles authorized by real creators: Chat in a tone approved by the creator, with messages labeled “AI double.”

How do you view AI idols? Does it cost money?

Previews are available. Unlock full content individually or join ASEC membership.

• Membership has Basic and VIP tiers for viewing the platform's own AI idol content.
• VIP includes a free allowance for Direct Messages with AI idols.
• Actual plans, prices, and allowances follow platform announcements^[2].

Will AI girlfriends replace real people?

No. They meet different needs.

• AI idols are always online and do not get tired.
• Real creators have real lives and emotions.

ASEC brings both onto the same platform:

• For a real person's response, Subscribe to a real creator and contact her through paid Direct Messages.
• For company whenever you want it, try an AI idol.

How do the three types of AI girlfriends compare?

(A general comparison of product types; check each app's official information for its actual features.)

What is a real creator's AI double?

It is a version authorized by a real creator to chat on her behalf.

• It chats in a tone she has approved and introduces her content while she is offline.
• Every message identifies whether it comes from the creator, her team, or an AI double, so you are not led to believe you are talking to her personally^[2].
• This feature will roll out gradually.

What should you keep in mind when using an AI girlfriend?

Look after your money and privacy.

• Do not share your ID number or banking login details in conversations.
• Check your automatic renewal settings.
• Never follow requests to pay outside the platform.
